Or just an IMDB guesstimate? I'm just wondering - because although there was that 3 year deal for Carell, there's been no official word has there? also that dern IMDBPro has forbidden me from checking any of it out.

2011 is IMDB's guesstimate (along with a few other sites)... 2010 is MY guesstimate... Anne Hathaway is supposed to start filming for a chick flick called The Fiancé in March of 2009, and supposedly as soon as that wraps they'll begin shooting our next Smart film... supposing The Fiancé doesn't take too terribly long, i see no reason for now why GS2 can't be ready for a Summer 2010 release...

it's been almost a year since the last post in this thread, but i've heard almost no news whatsoever concerning GS2! IMDB still guesses 2011, though... i don't really care 2010 or 2011 as long as we get something good out of it when(if) it comes!

Good read, cheers Smythey!
Looking at IMDB - its still one of those "in development" projects on Carell's page, so we'll have to wait and see.

wouldyoubelieve.com updated their movie page on May 2, 2010 with this information.
In a recent interview Carell discussed a sequel to the movie and claimed it would take a completely new direction than the old one. Perhaps actually being funny could be that new direction. Carell claims that there is a script, but any talk of shooting dates or definite plans to shoot a sequel are still not in discussion. As mentioned earlier, Carell has many other options on his plate that are more desirable. Director Peter Segal also has two other movies ahead of a sequel in the schedule and I would be stunned, though delighted, if Segal was not at the helm of a sequel.
There are several reasons for the delay, with an apathetic public being one of them. However, the original movie made money (especially overseas) so there is a desire on the part of the studio to reprise it. On the other hand, a major reason for the delay is that someone extremely high up in the production, whom I can't reveal publicly, was unhappy with the quality of the script and has begun the process of having it rewritten. Given that the rejected script was written by the hacks who wrote the first one, there's no surprise there.

thanks for the update, amy... if it means a higher quality film, i don't see any problem with a delay - so long as it doesn't take too long... a lot of films start off with "just a little delay while we iron this or that out" and it ends up being put off for decades! 2012, 2013 is ok, but after that, the likelihood of another sequel actually getting made goes way down, IMO...

Yeah I think that if they were to delay it any longer then 2013 the next Get Smart movie we'd be seeing would be a "reboot" of the 2008 film.
After viewing the entire series since the movie, I have to say I'm expecting a lot better from the sequel.
