Siegfried (played by Bernie Kopell) is probably the best-known villain Maxwell Smart ever faced, though it may interest you to know that he only appeared in 14 of the show's 138 episodes...

for me, A Spy for a Spy stands as one of the best of the whole series, let alone with Siegfried... several others are very good, though, also...

- A Spy for a Spy (October 1, 1966) - when Siegfried the Great kidnaps the Chief of CONTROL, Max tries to get him back by kidnapping an important KAOS agent... each side tries to out-do the other and things get out of hand...
- Rub-A-Dub-Dub...Three Spies in a Sub (November 12, 1966) - Max and 99 discover (and are captured on) a submarine occupied by Siegfried
- Someone Down Here Hates Me (January 14, 1967) - Siegfried offers a bounty on Max's head
- Cutback at Control (January 21, 1967) - when budget constraints cause cutbacks, some CONTROL agents go to work for KAOS
- How to Succeed in the Spy Business Without Really Trying (March 11, 1967) - Siegfried defects to CONTROL...or does he?!
- The Spy Who Met Himself (October 7, 1967) - KAOS causes chaos when impersonators start replacing real CONTROL agents
- One of Our Olives Is Missing (November 4, 1967) - when a country singer (Carol Burnett) swallows an olive with a secret transmitter in it, Max must protect her from KAOS
- The Mysterious Dr. T (December 30, 1967) - just before a leading CONTROL scientist dies, he reveals that Dr. T was the real brains behind his inventions... now CONTROL and KAOS are racing to see who can find and woo Dr. T first!
- Spy, Spy, Birdie (March 9, 1968) - a man who only wants quiet in the world invents a silent explosive
- Snoopy Smart vs the Red Baron (September 28, 1968) - on a visit to 99's mother, Max and 99 learn how Siegfried is destroying the country's potato crop
- Schwartz's Island (December 21, 1968) - on their honeymoon, Max and 99 end up with Siegfried on a deserted synthetic island
- The Not-So-Great Escape, Parts 1 & 2 (March 15 & 22, 1969) - in a parody of The Great Escape, CONTROL agents (including the Chief) are captured and sent to a KAOS POW camp in New Jersey... it's up to Max to find and save them all!
- Ice Station Siegfried (December 19, 1969) - with Max and the Chief trapped in a snow storm in Florida, 99 teams up with CIA Agent Quigley (Bill Dana), who must battle Siegfried at the North Pole
