i think most people will agree that Ed Platt's Chief on the 1960s TV series was the best Chief ever, but i wonder which one would come in next best... to refresh your memories, here are the other contenders: - Dana Elcar played the Chief of Provisional Intelligence Tactical Service (PITS) in The Nude Bomb
- Kenneth Mars played Commander Drury, the head of the US Intelligence Agency in Get Smart, Again!
- Don Adams played Maxwell Smart, Chief of CONTROL, in the 1995 Get Smart TV series
- Alan Arkin played the Chief of CONTROL in the 2008 Get Smart movie
there were good things and bad things about each one, so i'm gonna have to give this a little thought before i cast my vote... what do the rest of you think?

I really like Alan Arkin as The Chief. He was straight enough to be true to the original but different enough to be surprising and out of the blue. The way he delivered the swordfish line was remarkable...

yeah, i went ahead and cast my vote for Arkin, too... up until the '08 movie, i guess Don Adams would have gotten my vote, but like i said, there were good and bad things about all of them...

This is a good reminder that I need to see the new movie before I can cast my vote. It wouldn't hurt if I could see examples of Don Adams from Get Smart '95, either, though I'm not sure if/when that will ever happen. of the two I've seen, I would have to vote for Kenneth Mars by default just because everything I remember from The Nude Bomb was pretty horrible. To be fair, it's been years, though, since i've seen either of those performances, either, though.

I've only seen GSA and GS08, however I can safely say that Alan Arkin's chief will remain the best of the post-Ed Platt Chiefs. Chief getting into the fiel was very Get Smartian i felt and was a good show on behalf of the writers. Seeing Arkin back as Chief would be my driving force for a sequel.

Alan Arkin did a pretty good job. Reminded me a lot of Ed Platt.
